INDUSTRIES
The industrial Policy 1977 contained the concept of District Industries Centre (DIC). DIC program was initiated on 1st May 1978 as a centrally sponsored scheme. It was a landmark measure in development of cottage and small industries in smaller towns in India. DIC’s were started with a view to provide integrated administrative framework at the district level for industrial promotion. It is aimed at providing all assistance and support to entrepreneurs in various states. These centres are responsible for effective promotion of cottage and small scale Industries at district level. These centres also to provide support facilities, concessions and services to develop tiny, cottage and small scale units.

- Located in close proximity to state capital Hyderabad
- Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad located in the district.
- National High way No. 44 (formerly NH 7, from Kasi to Kanyakumari) passes through the district connecting Hyderabad and Bengaluru

- Principal Commercial crops are Cotton, Groundnut, Castor, Chillies and Maize.
- Principal Horticulture crops are Mango, Grape, Guava, Pomogranate and Papaya.
- Abundance of minerals like Quartz, Feldspar, Road metal, laterite, black granite,fuller’s earth occur in the district.
- 9 Mega Industries with 2570.22 crores investment and 4400 employment and 103 large industries with investment of Rs. 84 Cr., providing employment of 11,117 persons.
- 62 Medium industries with investment of Rs. 51Cr., providing employment of 5251 persons.
- 3276 MSE units with investment of Rs 2889.65 Cr., providing employment of 57097 persons
- Total population of the district is 24,26,243 persons with 12,43,967 males and 11,82,276 females with literacy rate of 71.88%.
